Marco Bielsa says Leeds’ position is worrisome

Bielsa opens up about his team’s form and says they are in a relegation battle.

After making a dream return to the Premier League in the 2020-21 season and finishing 9th, is it finally time for Leeds to face Championship teams again? Although they had a sensational season in Bielsa’s maiden Premier League season, his magic appears to be wearing off as relegation seems inevitable for The Whites.

Leeds are currently 15th in the league with just 5 wins in 25 games. They also conceded the most number of goals,56, in the league with a goal difference of -27. Only last-placed Norwich City has a worse goal difference of -38. In his maiden season, Leeds finished 9th with a positive goal difference of 8 and did surprisingly well against the top teams of the premier league. He was praised for his tactics and the pressure he puts on his players and believed that was what fetched him the results.

However, something has gone horribly wrong for Bielsa’s men. In the post-match interview against Liverpool, he admitted that he was worried and that they might be heading for relegation. The absence of the main striker, Patrick Bamford, due to injury might be one of the biggest reasons for this poor form. He was the main man for them in the previous season.

This absence can also be explained as a ginger, Raphinha, created the most number of chances in the league with 48. The chances have been created but there was no one at the end to meet the crosses. Although the season is not over yet, it is slipping out of their hands and relegation seems likely.
