
According to David Ornstein of The Athletic, Manchester United and Erik, ten Hag have reached a verbal agreement in principle to become the club’s next permanent manager as he is said to be ‘satisfied’ with the club’s future plan.
Ten Hag is known for his offensive style of football, which has helped Ajax to great success in recent years. This is a choice that will delight many United supporters. He is set to sign a four-year contract with the club.
Ajax is negotiating with United about his buyout clause as they are aware of the situation. United will have to finalise arrangements and documents. No official agreement or announcement is expected to be made until after Ajax’s Dutch Cup final against PSV Eindhoven on April 17.
According to The Athletic, his backroom and coaching staff are set to be decided in due time. Ten Hag will replace the current temporary manager Ralf Rangnick, who has been in charge since November after the previous manager Ole Gunnar Solskajer was removed from his duties. Also on the club’s shortlist was the current coach of Paris Saint-Germain, Mauricio Pochettino, however, the club has concluded to not hire the former Tottenham Hotspur manager.
After previously working under Pep Guardiola(present Manchester City head coach) at Bayern Munich and Bayern Munich’s second team, he he was allowed to become the head coach of Ajax in December 2017.
In 2019, the 52-year-old led Ajax to the Champions League semi-finals, where they were eliminated by Tottenham Hotspur.
Ajax won the Eredivisie title in 2019 and 2021, and they are presently four points clear at the top of the standings.
