As Manchester United nears employing Erik ten Hag, Ralf Rangnick has rated him as a “great manager,” in a news conference. Ajax expects Ten Hag to take over at United, and the Red Devils are nearing a deal to release Ten Hag from his Ajax contract. It was said three weeks ago that Ten Hag was United’s favoured option to take over in the summer.
Ten Hag had only been interviewed for the position of permanent manager for a little over two weeks, but he had already emerged as United’s preferred candidate.
Rangnick will remain at United after his interim manager job as a consultant on a two-year contract, but he is still hesitant to speak openly about Ten Hag.
“I’m not going to talk about any potential new managers here since this is the news conference for tomorrow’s game,” Rangnick stated. “From what I’ve heard, every one of the managers the club has spoken to thus far are elite managers and coaches, and Erik ten Hag is no exception. At this point, that’s all I have to say. It’s all about getting the team ready for tomorrow’s game, and hopefully three points. I know which coaches they’ve spoken to so far; they’re all top coaches, but my concentration right now is on tomorrow, the game tomorrow, and the games after that.”
