Manchester United eyeing club legend Edwin Van Der Sar to become their ‘new director’ of football

According to reports from Holland, Edwin is being tipped to become the new director of Manchester United and has already been approached last week.

The Red Devils eye to strengthen their side in the following transfer window as Erik Ten Hag continues to rebuild the team after bringing in quality of players to the side. John Murtough, the current director of the club, has played down the prospect of making any January signings and looks to be replaced.

As reported by Dutch outlet Voetbal Primeur Manchester United is lining up a shock return for the club legend Edwin Van Der Sar who is currently serving as the chief of Ajax football club. Edwin has been an integral part of Ajax’s success in the past few years and the reds have already approached him last week, as per reports.

United have already extracted a lot from the Ajax prodigy this season including their manager and a couple of talented youngsters- Antony and Lisandro Martinez and are very keen on making another addition to their club’s hierarchy. The board believes that Van Der Sar will be the perfect man for the role to help in the rebuilding phase and bring the glory days back to United.

However, United may face some problems as the Ajax chief extended his contract the previous month to 2025 and the Ajax contingency plan might take a twist shortly although him being persistently linked with the former club.

“I am enjoying myself so much at Ajax, I still have two years left here,” Van der Sar told RTL7. He continued and said, “I am sure that one day the moment will arrive [to join Manchester United].”
