Phil Jones has not appeared for the club since January 2020 following a knee problem that dogged him completely throughout his career. His last appearance was against Tranmere Rovers in the FA Cup in the year 2020 as he scored an emotional goal before he injured himself. After appearing in the U-23’s of the United squad, he finally gets back with the first-team squad, with the return on the first team against West Ham United on Wednesday. Ole Gunnar Solksjaer in his exclusive interview with Manchester United TV praised the England defender by mentioning “He has completed two 90 minutes for the Under-23s, played some minutes behind closed doors and he’s got no reaction on his knee.”

Talking about his past performance, the Red Devil boss also said “He’s been so diligent and so professional; no-frills, no social media and I’m old school. I like players like that. He just focuses on one thing and gets his head around the challenges and he’s back.

This will mark the fourth meeting between the two sides in the EFL Cup, after the heroic performance shown by the Red Devil’s beating them 2-1 on Sunday, all thanks to the outstanding penalty save by David De Gea in the penultimate minute.

Manchester United have meanwhile lost their last two EFL Cup matches at Old Trafford, both from Manchester City. Now with Cristiano Ronaldo’s arrival, it should be a convincing win for the team.
