Manchester United and Aston Villa cancel their training session due to the COVID-19 outbreak

The Premier League clubs are facing a lot of issues due to COVID-19. Some clubs have reported new cases which leads to growth in tension for officials.

The COVID-19 is still not giving up as a lot of Premier League clubs are getting affected by the new number of cases that are being reported these days. Manchester United and Steven Gerrard’s Aston Villa are the latest clubs that are facing the issue of COVID-19 cases outbreak. Some of the players and some staff members of both the clubs gave been tested positive. This is not a piece of good news for other clubs as well, as it can result in postponing of matches. Both the teams had to cancel their training session on Sunday as some new cases were detected. Both Man United and Aston Villa played their matches on Saturday in the Premier League, where both went away from home.

Ralf Rangnick’s Manchester United went to Carrow road to play against Norwich. They won the game by 1-0, thanks to Cristiano Ronaldo’s only goal which came from the penalty spot in the second half of the game. Aston Villa went to Anfield to play against the 2nd placed team, Liverpool. The return of the legend Steven Gerrard to Anfield as a manager wasn’t great as Villa lost 0-1 to the Reds. According to TheAthleticUK’s football correspondent David Ornstein, some MUFC players and staff members were tested positive on Sunday morning just before the training session, after that, the session was canceled, but however, Ornstein also said that the players did individual non-contact training. Later he also posted Aston Villa’s news on Twitter.


Earlier this weekend, Premier League officials already postponed the match between Brighton and Tottenham Hotspur as the COVID-19 outbreak cases were seen there as well. Both the teams had their matches mid-week. The officials still expect the match between Brentford and Man United, and Norwich and Aston Villa to go on despite the number of new COVID-19 cases.
