Manchester City eye championship goalkeepers amid Ederson transfer speculation

Manchester City are exploring options in the EFL Championship as they prepare for a potential goalkeeper change this summer. The Premier League champions are facing increasing pressure from Saudi Arabian clubs, who are keen on signing Ederson.

Ederson, Manchester City’s Brazilian goalkeeper, has been linked with a move to Saudi Arabia throughout the transfer window. Al-Nassr made an initial bid of £25 million, which City rejected. Al-Ittihad is also expected to make a move, but City is holding out for around £50 million for their key player.

In response to the ongoing interest from the Middle East, Manchester City are considering backup options. The club has been reviewing potential goalkeepers from the Championship as part of their contingency planning.

One candidate is Sunderland’s Anthony Patterson, who is also on Liverpool’s radar. Another option is James Trafford, a Manchester City academy graduate. Trafford, currently at Burnley, has been highly regarded by City officials. He was previously on loan at Accrington Stanley and Bolton Wanderers before joining Burnley.

Trafford has expressed his ambition to return to Manchester City and become their number one goalkeeper. He has previously mentioned his goal of playing in the UEFA Champions League and representing England, reflecting his high aspirations.
