Liverpool FC record 2,000 top-flight wins, go three points clear of Chelsea

Chelsea dropped two crucial points after getting a draw against Everton FC, meanwhile, Liverpool’s comeback victory made them stay in second place in the Premier League more comfortably.

Liverpool FC remains at 2nd position in the Premier League table as they won against Newcastle United by 3-1 who is currently in a bad run of a form. Eddie Howe’s men have only won once in the last 5 English Premier League games which is not a good stat for the Magpies. They are still in the bottom 3 of the Premier League. However, the arrival of the new manager this season gave them huge confidence and also lifted the team but, the manager (Eddie Howe) is not able to get some points for his team.

This was their 3rd loss in the last five Premier League games as they have only earned 4 points with a possible 15. Though the Magpies lost the game against Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool on Thursday night, they opened the scoring in just 7 minutes of the game when Newcastle’s midfielder Jonjo Shelvey had a stunning strike at Liverpool’s goal and it beats everyone including the goalkeeper Alisson Becker. However, Liverpool didn’t trail for too long as 14 minutes later they found an equalizer, thanks to Diogo Jota’s rebound goal after Dubravka saved his close-range header. Just 4 minutes after that, one of Liverpool’s main men, Mohamed Salah who is in exceptional form this season scored another goal which helped the host take the lead over Magpies. The Egyptian forward made another record with this goal as he becomes the first player to score in 5 Anfield league games in succession against Newcastle. He also now has a goal or assist in 15 consecutive Premier League games after scoring against Eddie Howe’s men.

Liverpool really pushed the visitors on backfoot as they kept creating chances even after their second goal. Jurgen Klopp’s men were 2-1 up in the half-time. The second half sees only a single goal and that’s also from the Premier Player of the Month for November, Trent Alexander-Arnold. It was amazingly struck by the English right-back from the distance of 25 yards which beats Dubravka. This goal seals the victory for the Reds and now they are 3 points clear off Chelsea as they were held to draw by Everton FC on Thursday. With this comeback win, Liverpool became the first English team to record 2,000 victories in top-flight football.
