Football fans were taken aback on Wednesday as Fabrizio Romano, a renowned football journalist, confirmed that Lionel Messi is all set to leave PSG at the end of the season. While Messi’s next club hasn’t been decided yet, his departure from PSG is 100% confirmed.
Messi’s departure from PSG comes as a shock, considering he only joined the Parisian club in August 2021, after spending his entire professional career at Barcelona. The Argentine superstar joined PSG as a free agent after Barcelona failed to meet the financial requirements to renew his contract.
Despite Messi’s high expectations at PSG, the team’s performance has been underwhelming, with the club failing to win the Ligue 1 title and being knocked out of the Champions League in the semi-finals. Messi’s injury issues and the team’s tactical struggles have been some of the reasons behind the club’s underperformance.
