Lionel Messi who had expressed his desire to leave the club confirmed on Friday to Goal that he will stay at Barcelona for the next season which comes as a huge relief for the fans around the globe.
The Barcelona captain while speaking about his transfer situation to Goal said, ” I’ll continue at Barcelona and my attitude won’t change, no matter how much I have wanted to go, I told the club, the president, that i wanted to go. I’ve been telling him all year.
” I thought my time in Barcelona was over, sadly- I wanted to finish my career here.” It was a very difficult year, I suffered a lot in training, in games and in dressing room.”
” The president always said that the end of the season I could decide if I wanted to go or if I wanted to stay and at the end he did not end up keeping his word”.
Messi’s love and loyalty for his club was also questioned by many of the media houses and he also opened up about the fake promises the club and president Bartomeu promised him which were never delivered.
” I feel hurt by the things I heard from people , from journalism, from people questioning by Barcelonism. It has also helped me see who is who, There are many very false people. It hurt me when my love for this club was questioned. My love for Barca will never change.
” I wanted a winning project to win titles with the club and expanding the legend of Barcelona, ” The truth is there has been no project or anything for a long time, they jiggle and cover holes as things go by.”
Earlier Messi’s father Jorge Messi had a meeting with the club and the president to discuss a potential move away from Barcelona but with Messi coming out publicly speaking he will stay at Barcelona and his love for Barca will never change.
This also highlighted how the Bartomeu regime has miss handled the club and there was no plan or project for the football team to prosper, Also Messi expressed his disconnect with the club officials and how never things or projects did not materialize. This could be the best outcome for Barcelona as a Club but will it be the same for Lionel Messi.
