Ligue 1: PSG win their season opener against Ligue 2 champions Troyes FC

PSG get off to a tough start to their 2021/21 Ligue 1 campaign to the 2020/21 Ligue 2 champions Troyes.

Paris Saint-Germaine starts their 2021/22 Ligue 1 campaign with a 2-1 victory over the newly promoted French side Troyes FC. Troyes were the champions of the Ligue 2 in the 2020/21 season. They had an impressive run in the second tier of French football by caring on their form in their first game back to the top flight. Troyes took an early lead in the 9th minute of the game thanks to a Dylan Chambost delivery into the box from a corner. The 30-year-old defender Oualid El Hajjam got his head to the ball and gave Troyes the lead.

10 minutes later the Spaniard Ander Herrera plays the ball over the top of the Troyes defence line to find the overlapping run of their new summer signing Achraf Hakimi.

Minutes later after levelling the score PSG continued their momentum after being stunned earlier in the game going 1-0 down. Mbappe made a diagonal run into the box looking to receive a cross from the far side and ended up drawing the Troyes keeper off his line. The winger had the presence of mind to cut the ball back to his teammate Mauro Icardi who found the back of the net.

Troyes put up a good fight to the mighty Ligue 1 record winners PSG. Although they fought hard in their first game back to Ligue 1 they fell short at the end as PSG held them at bay to end the game 2-1.

“It was a very difficult game and we didn’t start it well. We need to do much better,” PSG coach Mauricio Pochettino said. “We conceded far too many chances for my liking,” he added.
