In the French league’s season-opening game Monaco was held 1-1 at home by Nantes. Monaco dominated the whole game, but couldn’t manage to get a win. It was a frustrating game for Niko Kovac’s side.
Monaco finished 3rd last season in the French league 1, just below Mauricio Pochettino’s Paris Saint-Germain. However, the champions league hopefuls threw away a lead and let Nantes score a goal which ended the game with a scoreline of 1-1.
Gelson Martins of Monaco broke the deadlock in the 14th minute of the game. After leading by 1-0 Monaco didn’t defend well against Nantes. Hence, in the 42nd minute, Jean-Charles Castelletto equalized for Nantes after scoring a great header from a corner. Monaco’s desperate defending costs them a goal, which gave visitors a point. German Goalkeeper Alexander Nubel who has just joined the French side (Monaco) on loan from Bayern Munich, and Dutch striker Myron Boadu, who joined from Alkmaar, made their debut in this opening match.
Myron Boadu had one of the best chances to score a goal. He missed an open goal, which easily would have made the score 2-0 for the Ligue 1 side (Monaco). This didn’t prove to be a good match for Nubel either. Monaco got a few chances in the second half but in the end, they had to settle for a draw.
