Lewandowski’s brace help Bayern Munich win the DFL-Supercup 3-1 against Borussia Dortmund

Bayern Munich has won the DFL-Supercup after defeating their old rivals of the German League, Borussia Dortmund. Robert Lewandowski scored two whereas the Germany attacking midfielder, Thomas Muller scored 1 goal for Bayern Munich.

DFL-Supercup has won by the last season’s Bundesliga champions, Bayern Munich. Bayern played this game as an away side. The match was been held in Dortmund’s home stadium, Westfalenstadion. The game ended with a final score of 1-3. This was Julian Nagelsman’s first trophy with Bayern Munich since joining the club in July 2021.

Both the teams were attacking in the first 45 minutes. It was no one’s game but only till 40 minutes as Robert Lewandowski hit a stunning heading goal in the 41st minute to give Bayern a 1 goal lead. Dortmund too created many chances but didn’t find a goal. Marco Reus of Borussia Dortmund had one of the best chances in the first half to score a goal before he was denied by Germany’s No. 1 goalkeeper, Manuel Neuer.

It was only a short time since the second half started and Bayern scored their second goal. Thomas Muller, a German attacking Midfielder got the ball in front of the open goal after Lewandowski’s shot was saved by the Dortmund goalkeeper Gregor Kobel. Thomas Muller made no mistake and it was 2-0 for the away side. In the 64th minute, Borussia Dortmund’s captain Marco Reus opened the scoring for Dortmund with a spectacular goal from outside the penalty box. However, that goal from Reus wasn’t enough for Dortmund to get the trophy as they were still trailing by 1 goal. Later on, in the 74th minute, Robert Lewandowski scored his 2nd and Bayern Munich’s 3rd goal which sealed the game and help Bayern Munich retain their German Super Cup which goes under the name DFL-Supercup.
