Karim Benzema announces retirement from International football

Benzema won’t be seen playing for the French national football team.

The French forward Karim Benzema officially announced his retirement from International football on his 35th birthday. Benzema emotionally celebrated his birthday as he announced that he is retiring from the French national team. This was bad news for the French fans following their disappointing defeat in the finals of the FIFA World Cup 2022.

On December 18, Argentina defeated France in the final of the World Cup on penalties (4-2). On the very next day, the sadness of French fans got extended as one of their best forward players (Karim Benzema) announced his retirement.

The striker won’t be playing for the French national football team from now on. However, he will continue playing club football. Real Madrid striker won his first Ballon d’Or this year. The French forward had three major trophies last season i.e. UEFA Champions League, UEFA Super Cup, and La Liga title (2021/22).

“I’ve made my best efforts and my mistakes to be where I am today and I am proud! I’ve written my own story and our story ends today,” wrote Benzema on his official social media handle.
