ISL: Csaba Laszlo the new head coach named by Chennaiyin FC for 2020/21 season

The two times ISL Champions Chennaiyin FC announced the appointment of Csaba Laszlo on Sunday as their new head coach for the 2020/21 season in the ISL replacing Owen Coyle who took the team to the finals in 2019/20 season. This will be the first maiden experience for the Romanian on Asian soil, he has almost two decades of football managerial experience with also coaching International teams like Uganda and Lithuania.

“I am incredibly proud and happy to become the Head Coach of Chennaiyin FC. It is my privilege to join the club on its completion of six successful years. I believe Chennaiyin is a close-knit family-like club that chases excellence with absolutely passionate fans by its side at all times,” he quoted while interacting with media.

The Chennaiyin FC co-owner said Laszlo has all the credentials and bags of experience to win titles and bring success to the club, “We are excited to bring Csaba onboard as Head Coach and believe he has the perfect credentials to bring success to our club. Along with his experience of coaching at the highest level in various leagues and countries.”

Laszlo a centre midfielder himself had to quit his professional career due to a serious knee injury at the age of 27, his early coaching experience came in Germany at Borussia Monchengladbach B team, where he used to scout and recruit young players among which was the German International and FIFA World Cup bronze medalist Marcell Jansen.

He won the Hungarian coach of the year award in 2005, there after he took on the charge of Uganda National team and took them to 167 to 97 in the FIFA rankings, he also served as the head coach of Lithuania national team. The Romanian has also Europa league managerial experience from his time at Midlothian ( Hearts) from Scotland. His last managerial stint was with the Romanian Club Sepsi OSK.
