Midfielder and captain Sergio Cidoncha made it 1-0 to the Kerala Blasters in the 5th minute. Kerala Blasters got a free kick outside the box and Seityasen Singh put in a great ball for Cidoncha, who headed it in to score their first goal of the season.
Lalthathanga Khawlhring (popularly also known as Puitea) won a penalty for Kerala in 45th minute after being brought down in the box. Gary Hooper had no problems scoring from 12 yards out as he extended Kerala’s lead to 2-0 going into half time. It was also the striker’s first goal of the season.
Kwesi Appiah had a mixed night for NorthEast United. He scored off a rebound to make it 2-1 to NEUFC but also wasn’t able to score from the spot as his shot hit the woodwork. Kerala Blasters rode their luck as NorthEast were all over them in the second half, attempting 10 shots of which 4 were on target.
Idrissa Sylla smashed in a 90th minute equaliser to spoil The Tuskers’ party. A point for both sides keeps NorthEast at the top of the table whereas the Blasters sit 8th.
