Chennaiyin FC were looking to get their first win in 4 games and it came at the right time, against Odisha FC. This was the second time both teams played each other in a space of 4 days.
Goncalves opened the scoring for Chennaiyin in the 15th minute after an error from Odisha defender Gaurav Bora gave the striker a free run at goal. The evening got even worse for Bora as he fouled Chennaiyin’s Anirudh Thapa in the box, gifting the Marina Machans a penalty. Goncalves scored his second goal of the game, this time from the penalty spot.
Diego Mauricio pulled one back for Odisha, curling the ball past Chennaiyin’s Vishal Kaith. It wasn’t enough as Chennaiyin FC eventually held on to the lead and secured the 3 points to go 5th in the league standings. Odisha are last in the table with 6 points in 11 games.
