Is Conor McGregor considering buying Chelsea FC?

Conor McGregor took to Twitter his desire of buying Chelsea from Roman Abramovich.

The future of Chelsea is still uncertain after owner Roman Abramovich was pressurized into passing on the control of the club to the Blues’ charitable foundation. It was official on Wednesday night that the Russian is selling the club and Conor McGregor has emerged as a surprise candidate to buy it.

Abramovich became Chelsea’s owner in 2003 but was criticized because of his links to Vladimir Putin and the Russian government that invaded Ukraine. In response, he released a statement on Saturday night.

“I have always taken decisions with the club’s best interest at heart. I remain committed to these values. That is why I am today giving trustees of Chelsea’s charitable foundation the stewardship and care of Chelsea. ” he said in a statement released on Chelsea’s website.

However, the trustees of the charitable foundation reported this to the Charity Commission in the UK, so the Russian had to look for other options. Along with Conor McGregor, Sir Jim Ratcliffe, Todd Boehly, Hansjorg Wyss, and Stephen Ross are the potential buyers of Chelsea.

Sir Jim Ratcliffe has a net worth of 6.33 billion Euros, Todd Boehly’s is 4 billion euros, Hansjorg Wyss also with 4 billion euros, and finally the money and brains behind the controversial European Super League, Stephen Ross with 6 billion euros.

Although McGregor is the highest-paid athlete on Forbes 2021, ahead of Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi, his net worth is a mere 135 million euros. This suggests that if the MMA fighter is buying the club, he has to join hands with a few investors.

The Irish MMA fighter announced on Wednesday evening that he would be interested in purchasing the London club.

McGregor is a football fan. Even though his favourite club is Manchester United, he is looking to buy the London club. The Two division UFC World Champion and Two division Cage Warriors World Champion has previously shown interest in buying Manchester United as well.
