On the 4th of this month, journalist Fabrizio Romano reported that Inter wants to renew Hakan Çalhanoglu’s contract to keep him in the squad. Hakan Çalhanoğlu’s new deal with Inter will be valid until June 2027. His contract expires in 2024, and Simone Inzaghi would not let the midfielder leave because he is a crucial player for the coach. Now the journalist reports that, quite soon, Inter will complete the paperwork and sign the final documents for the new contract of Hakan Çalhanoğlu. On 22 June 2021, Çalhanoğlu agreed to sign a three-year contract with Inter Milan.

In the opening game of the 2021–22 Serie A season, Çalhanoğlu scored a goal and assisted another on his Inter Milan debut, a 4–0 victory over Genoa. Aside from scoring seven goals and notching twelve league assists, he also contributed to the victory against Juventus in the Coppa Italia final. Nevertheless, his former team AC Milan won the league title. During Inter’s 1–0 victory over Barcelona on 4 October 2022, he scored his first Champions League goal.
As a result of his performance in the Champions League round of 16 second-leg away match against Porto on 14 March 2023, he was named Player of the Match. After a scoreless draw, they qualified for the quarterfinals for the first time in twelve years by winning 1–0 on aggregate.
