India’s U-20 Women’s National Football team score seven in their thumping victory against Singapore

India’s U-20 Women’s National Football Team kick start their Asian Cup Qualifiers Round 1 campaign.

India’s U-20 Women’s National Team opened its AFC U-20 Women’s Asian Cup Qualifiers Round 1 campaign with a 7-0 win over Singapore at the Viet Tri Stadium in Viet Tri City, Vietnam, on Tuesday, March 7, 2023. In less than 30 minutes, Maymol Rocky’s girls jumped out to a six-goal lead. Sumati Kumari and Astam Oraon scored one goal in the first half, while captain Apurna Narzary and Anita Kumari each scored two goals.

Newly captain, Apurna Narzary, gave India the lead in the seventh minute by finishing off a squared pass from Anita Kumari. Anita picked up her second assist a few minutes later by sending an inch-perfect cross from the right for Sumati to head home coolly.
It was three in a blink of an eye. Following the blocking of shots by Anita and Nitu Linda, the loose ball fell to Apurna, who took a touch before placing it into the goal. Anita tapped in a low cross from Sumati from the left to make it four for India.

As Sumati continued to cause havoc down the left wing, she broke free from her marker again before delivering another low cross. Astam Oraon made a run forward from left-back and guided the ball into the net. In the 31st minute, India added their sixth goal. After making a blistering run into the box, Apurna unselfishly passed the ball back to Anita. For her second goal of the day, the winger dispatched a ground shot through a forest of red shirts.

Singapore was better organized defensively after the restart, denying India much space in the middle of the field. Nevertheless, the Young Tigresses continued to dominate possession and utilize the wings effectively.

Despite their outstanding dribbling skills, some solid Singaporean defence denied substitutes Neha and Lynda. She beat two defenders on the left before a red shirt blocked her shot. Lynda did the same on the right, but goalkeeper Nur Izairida Shakira saved her right-footed effort. The Singapore custodian was called into action ten minutes later, saving a powerful effort from Mousumi Murmu, who was making her international debut for India.

India finally hit seven in the final minute of regulation time. Neha whipped a solid cross from the left to pick out midfielder Kajol. Kajol scored with a thumping header to round up a massive win for the Young Tigresses.
