India gets a sensational win against Hong Kong after 29 long years

A goal from Sunil Chhetri today makes it 84 International goals for him equalling the legend Puskas.

India beats Hong Kong 4-0 in an effortless manner in the last group match for the Blue Tigers in the AFC Asian Cup 2023 Qualifiers. With this win, India is now on top of the group with 9 points after winning all the 3 games against Cambodia, Afghanistan and Hong Kong. Today’s goal sees Sunil Chhetri go up in the scoring charts and equals his International goal tally with Hungarian legend Puskas with 84 goals. It is truly an outstanding achievement for the Indian captain. The Blue Tigers get its much-awaited win against Hong Kong after 29 years.

Throughout the game, team India was dominating against Hong Kong as an early goal from Anwar Ali in the second minute of the game saw India taking the lead. Just before the halftime whistle was blown, the skipper of the Indian team Chhetri doubled the scoring tally with a goal from the left foot and the men in blue made it 2-0 at the break. During the 85th minute of the game, a fantastic goal from Manvir Singh saw his team have a three-goal lead against Hong Kong. Right when the game was about to end, Ishan Pandita provides the knockout punch and makes it a comfortable 4-0 victory against Hong Kong.

With this dominating win, India now qualifies for the AFC Asian Cup as the leader of the group. This is the fifth time India is qualifying for the prestigious cup. India had qualified earlier in 1964, 1984, 2011, 2019 and now 2023. The Blue Tigers would surely be looking forward to keeping up their good form in the Asian Cup as well under head coach Igor Stimac.
