I’m not gonna retire from the national team: Lionel Messi

Lionel Messi won his first ever FIFA World Cup on Sunday after beating France in penalties.

Argentina defeated France in the FIFA World Cup finals to become the champion of the world third time. This was Lionel Messi’s first-ever FIFA World Cup. This was special for the Paris Saint-Germain’s forward. Messi was exceptional again in the final game as he scored two goals.

The game was so close but some excellent saves from Argentine goalkeeper named Emiliano Martinez in penalties helped Argentina lift the trophy first time since 1986.

Lionel Messi after winning the trophy said he won’t be retiring from the national football team and will keep serving his country along with the club. Messi did mention that this was his last FIFA World Cup (2022), but however, the manager of Argentina’s national football team named Lionel Scaloni wants him to play in the next World Cup as well.

“No, I’m not gonna retire from the national team. I want to keep playing as World Cup champions with the Argentina shirt,” said Lionel Messi to TyC Sports.
