Ahead of Liverpool’s game against Manchester United on 5th March 2023 at Anfield, Liverpool’s Jurgen Klopp spoke about Rashford’s recent form in a press conference today.
Klopp said, “It’s pretty much impossible to be happy about something positive at Manchester United when you are the Liverpool manager.”
“But I am happy for Rashford because he had a challenging last year where he was not performing at the level he could. Now he is playing incredibly. His speed, technique – a mix of everything, how calm he is in front of the goal, his ability to score spectacular and simple goals.”
After scoring just five goals in 2021-22, Marcus Rashford has scored 25 goals for United this season.
Knowing about the threats Manchester United could impose on his side on Sunday, the manager said, “I like Bruno Fernandes. His movement is brilliant. I like the way he shows up all of a sudden, and he is there.
“Casemiro is also joining forces with Fred. Their defensive technique of man-marking makes the game more physical. They also have the counter-attacks and the other winger, whoever that may be – Jadon Sancho – and upfront, the Dutchman ( Wout Weghorst ) is physical, so it is a good set-up.”
Klopp believes Manchester United is “fully in the fight” for the title but said, “they are squeezing results from some outstanding performances. Top football, and they still get results if it is not going well.”
“It is not a team built up for the next 20 years because of the players they have signed. So it is for now – but now they are perfect.”
With one game in hand, Manchester United are 11 points behind league leaders Arsenal.
