As reported by The Athletic’s Mario Cortegana, Real Madrid attacker Eden Hazard intends to remain in the Spanish capital until the end of his contract in 2024. Hazard stated months ago that he would accept Madrid’s decision if the club were to ask him to leave next summer, but he has changed his mind and will not give up his current contract, which makes him Madrid’s highest-paid player.
Real Madrid wishes to terminate Hazard’s contract, which could be better for them. Moreover, as a rotation player, the Belgian attacker has played minimally this season. As a result, the club’s decision to commit to such a salary with no return can be considered a complete waste of money and resources.
Refrain from making any mistakes, however. Real Madrid has faced similar situations with players like Gareth Bale and Mariano. So rather than criticizing the players for letting their contracts expire, we should blame the club for giving them these contracts in the first place.
“I’m sorry for what happened. I have a family, and I enjoy the city.” Eden Hazard stated, “I have one more year to prove my abilities.” However, it is a challenging task. I’m not playing right now; I would like to play more. In January, leaving is impossible because I have a family, and I like the city.”
The forward signed a five-year contract as the club’s record signing in 2019.
As their highest-paid player, Hazard is also unlikely to command an equivalent salary at any other club, given his recent form. Hazard has only featured for 296 minutes in all competitions this season, contributing a single goal and assist.
