Guardiola discloses Man City physios were called upon 71 times during laborious Atletico Madrid journey

The strain of performing so many games has taken a toll on Man City’s players.

Pep Guardiola revealed that physios were called in 71 times after Manchester City’s Champions League match versus Atletico Madrid in Europe. The Citizens have had a busy work schedule, with a Premier League encounter versus Liverpool on April 10 followed by a visit to the Spanish capital three days for an encounter versus Atlético Madrid after, and then a further FA Cup fixture versus the Reds straight after.

Guardiola further claimed that he was addressed by medical supervisors who notified him that owing to his crazy schedule, he might require an “abnormal” level of treatment. The hard encounter at the Estadio Wanda Metropolitano did have an impact on City’s men, causing Guardiola to select a weaker lineup for the FA Cup semi-final setback to Liverpool.

Addressing a press conference ahead of City’s league game with Brighton on Wednesday as reported by the goal, Guardiola said: “Our physios, they made 71 treatments in the space between Atletico Madrid and the semi-final of the FA Cup – 71 treatments. It’s true, the doctor came to me.

The City has shut out capturing a domestic cup this year, although they are still striving for triumph in the Champions League and England’s top flight. With Liverpool leapfrogging its biggest competitors after the 4-0 disgrace of Manchester United on Tuesday, the strain is on for a side that had been dominating the Premier League standings for most of the season. City, on the contrary hand, has completed one less match than Liverpool and can regain first place with a triumph over Brighton.
