Getafe will continue to profit from Mason Greenwood’s transfers due to an unusual sell-on clause included in his loan deal from Manchester United last summer.
When Getafe took Greenwood on loan, they negotiated a clause that would earn them 20 percent of any fee United received for selling the 22-year-old English forward after his loan spell. However, this clause goes further, giving Getafe 20 percent of all United’s potential future earnings from Greenwood.
Manchester United recently transferred Greenwood to Ligue 1 side Marseille in a deal worth up to £26.7 million ($34.5 million). United themselves included a significant sell-on clause in this deal.
This means that if Marseille sells Greenwood in the future, Getafe will receive 20 percent of whatever United makes from their sell-on clause, in addition to the £5.34 million they earned from his move to France.
