French forward Karim Benzema extends his contract with Real Madrid until 2023

Real Madrid has agreed with French forward Karim Benzema to extend his contract until 2023.
La Liga giant club announced the contract extension on Friday on their official site and social media accounts.

Karim Benzema has signed a new contract with Real Madrid. He will be in the club till 2023. The French forward was the top scorer for the Spanish side last season.

Benzema has acquired his form in the last season and also decided to play in the UEFA Euro 2020 Cup this year. However, the tournament did not go well for the French striker’s nation despite him being the third most top goal scorer as the France National team was beaten by Switzerland and went out of the tournament in the round of 16 matches. The 2018 World Cup winners, didn’t even manage to reach the quarter-finals or Semi-finals of the European Championship.

Benzema played 4 matches and scored 4 goals in this Euro 2020. He was the top performer for the France national team in the tournament. His contract was just a matter of hours as he already made up his mind this summer that he will remain committed to the club and will sign a new contract. Fabrizio Romano, an Italian journalist also reported this on Thursday via tweet. Fabrizio also made a post on Friday morning along with the Benzema photo that the agreement had been reached with Real Madrid over his new contract.

“He only wanted to continue at Real Madrid and Florentino Perez was working on this contract extension since last May to be ready,” Fabrizio Romano stated on his Instagram account on Friday morning.

Along with the new contract, Real Madrid has also set his release clause of €1 billion. This means the clubs that want Benzema will have to pay the release clause amount.
