French defender Raphael Varane is undergoing his Manchester United medical ahead for his transfer

The French defender, Raphael Varane is currently having his medical before joining the Premier League side Manchester United. He has signed a four-year contract with the club this summer as reported by Fabrizio Romano.

Four times Champions League winner Raphael Varane is currently undergoing medical ahead of his transfer to Manchester United. The French centre-back had already made up his mind this summer that he wants to leave La Liga giants Real Madrid. He wanted a new challenge and wished to play in the Premier League. The Premier League club Manchester United, who finished in 2nd place last season just below their biggest rivals Manchester City wanted a centre-back this summer. They had their eye on Varane since the summer window opened.

Varane served 10 years in Madrid as a very successive and spectacular centre-back. But this year, he left the Los Blancos. Varane’s regular partner at Madrid Sergio Ramos also left the club this summer and joined Ligue 1 side PSG. Varane won 3 La Liga titles, 1 Copa del Rey title, 4 UEFA Champions League titles, and 4 FIFA Club World Cup titles with Real Madrid. He also won a FIFA World Cup with France in 2018.

Raphael travelled to Manchester last week but couldn’t complete his medical then because of the COVID-19 guidelines. He needed isolation for some days before he could have his medical. Today, after being tested negative for COVID-19, he was permitted to have medical. Manchester United is hoping to see him in training on Wednesday as they want Varane to play their first game of the season which is against Leeds United at Old Trafford on Saturday. With Varane undergoing his medical now, it is likely that he will join the team on Wednesday and also feature in Man United’s first game of the season.
