Iceland were too good in this game and they nearly got the victory. Leading by 1-0 in the first half, Iceland really showed good football. France were left frustrated after being held to a 2-2 draw by a resilient Iceland side in last night’s World Cup 2026 Qualifiers clash. Despite boasting a star-studded lineup, Didier Deschamps’ men couldn’t secure the victory they were expected to claim.
Iceland started brightly and took a deserved 1-0 lead in the first half, displaying composure and tactical discipline against the French heavyweights. The hosts looked sharp in attack and confident in possession, making life difficult for the visitors.
France bounced back strongly after the break, with Christopher Nkunku and Jean-Philippe Mateta scoring two quick goals to turn the game around. At that stage, Les Bleus appeared to be in full control and seemed destined to take all three points.
However, Iceland refused to back down and found an equaliser late in the game, stunning the French defence. The result leaves France with plenty to reflect on, as defensive lapses and missed chances once again proved costly.
