According to TOI, several talks around the Catalonian press have reported that Barcelona is in touch with their former player Xavi Hernandez, to take up the job of their first team manager after the sacking of Koeman yesterday. But in the meantime, Barcelona has also announced the temporary replacement in the form of Sergi Barjuan.
Barjuan is the current coach of Barca B. He will be taking charge of the technical management of the senior team. It is reported that he is going to attend a meeting with President Laporta on Thursday in the press room at the Ciutat Esportiva, to discuss the upcoming match with Alaves on Sunday. Barjuan will be relieved of his duties once Barcelona hires a new full-time head coach.
It is believed that the Barca president is already in talks with Xavi, who is currently managing the Qatari club Al Sadd. With the Spaniard eager to join Barcelona for a long time, there is going to be no problem in making him agree to make the move. Xavi departed from the club in 2015 on the back of winning a treble. In his long stint of almost two decades with the club he accumulated 12 trophies, 8 came in the form of La Liga titles and 4 Champions League titles. He is already one of the legends of the club so his arrival will be welcomed by fans and players alike.
Barcelona is looking to negotiate the period before the International break begins. They’re playing Alaves and Celta Vigo in La Liga, and a very crucial game in Champions League against Dynamo Kyiv, whom they defeated with a slender margin to register their first and only Champion League win this year.
