Argentina got the better of the Netherlands in the quarter-final game of the FIFA World Cup 2022 which was played on Friday night. The game was an absolute thriller as it went on to the penalties. Argentina defeated the Netherlands on penalties and has named themselves in the semifinals of the FIFA World Cup 2022.
Argentina became the second Semifinalist of this year’s World Cup as the first one was Croatia who defeated Brazil on Friday in penalties. Argentina played a great game in the first half as they were leading by 1-0 thanks to Lionel Messi’s beautiful assist to Molina who had his first International goal for Argentina. Lionel Messi himself scored in the second half from the spot. Argentina was comfortably leading the Netherlands by 2-0 but it wasn’t enough as the Dutch made a comeback in the last minute.
Weghorst who came on from the bench for the Netherlands scored two late goals to make it 2-2 at the end which took the game to extra time a nd then penalties. Argentina’s goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez saved the first two penalties of the Dutch and thus it was over for Louis van Gaal’s men as they lost the penalty shootout by 4-3.
Argentina will now be facing Croatia in the semifinals of the World Cup 2022 which will be played on Tuesday, 13th December.
