FIFA World Cup 2022: Japan beat Spain to top the group

Japan beat Spain in their last group stage game of the FIFA World Cup 2022.

Japan and Spain were up against each other in the FIFA World Cup’s last group-stage game. Spain was on top with 4 points whereas Costa Rica and Japan had the same points (3). Germany who got eliminated despite getting a victory against Costa Rica remained at 1 point in the end.

Spanish side got defeated by Japan on Thursday night in their last group stage game by 2-1. It was a disappointing night for Luis Enrique’s side. Japan topped the group after getting a wonderful victory over Spain. It was Spain who scored the first goal of the game. Striker Alvaro Morata gave a 1-0 lead to the champions of the FIFA World Cup 2010.

However, the scenario changed after halftime as Japan came out to be on top. They didn’t take much time to equalize and take a lead against the Spanish side. Within 3 minutes Japan was leading the table. Luis Enrique’s side did create some amazing chances in the game but couldn’t find the equalizer. Spain had 12 shots on Japan’s goal and enjoyed 83% possession in the game, but still ended up losing in the end.

Spain will face Morocco in the round of 16 whereas Japan who topped the group will face Croatia.
