FIFA takes measures against war situation in Ukraine

Bureau of FIFA took measures with regard to Russia-Ukraine war.

Firstly, FIFA reiterated its strong disapproval of the use of Russian forces to invade Ukraine. FIFA asks the respective parties to start constructive peace talks and to restore peace as soon as possible. They are in close contact with the Ukrainian Association of Football and members of the football community

The Bureau of the FIFA Council has unanimously decided to take immediate measures. These measures are by the suggestions from International Olympic Committee (IOC).

The measures are as follows: (FIFA.com)

• No international competition shall be played on the territory of Russia, with “home” matches being played on neutral territory and without spectators

• The member association representing Russia shall participate in any competition under the name “Football Union of Russia (RFU)” and not “Russia”

• No flag or anthem of Russia will be used in matches where teams from the Football Union of Russia participate

Any additional measures to be taken, FIFA will use support from the IOC, UEFA, and other such sports organizations. One consideration in mind is to exclude Russia from all competitions.

Regarding the upcoming FIFA World Cup 2022 qualifiers, they have taken note of the stances taken by the Polish Football Association, the Football Association of the Czech Republic and the Swedish Football Association.
