Official: FC Barcelona appoints Xavi Hernandez as their new Manager

As a manager of Qatari club Al-Saad, where he played his final season in 2019, Xavi has won 7 trophies. 3 of them have come in 2021 alone.

The curtain finally falls on Barcelona’s new manager saga, as their former player and new manager Xavi Hernandez return to Camp Nou after 6 years. It all began last week when Barcelona without any forewarnings sacked their coach Ronald Koeman following a defeat against Rayo. It was their third defeat of the season, in just 15 matches, and above that, it was their second consecutive defeat in the league on the trot, following a humbling performance against Real Madrid. Barcelona was also suffering from one of the worst starts to their season in UCL, hence everyone knew what was coming.

The Catalonian side will be hoping to change that now, as they finally welcome one of their own. Xavi has been a product of La Masia, the youth academy of Barcelona, and spent more than 2 decades with the club. He made his debut under Luis Van Gal in 1998 and reached his full potential by 2003. By the time Pep Guardiola took up the managerial job at Barcelona Xavi was already one of the best and post-Puyol’s retirements Xavi took on the armband and joined the long list of club legends. As a player he has won 8 La Liga titles, 4 Champion’s leagues’ titles, 3 Copa del Rey, and 6 Spanish Super Cup titles.

As a manager of Qatari club Al-Saad, where he played his final season in 2019, he has won 7 trophies. 3 of them have come in 2021 alone. Therefore a conglomeration of a great player and handsome coach, Xavi will be expected to procure results from a team where he will be working with players he had played in the past. Hence, everyone has high expectations from Xavi the coach.
