The Football Association has handed Fulham striker Aleksandar Mitrovic an eight-match ban and a 75,000 pound ($94,000) fine for shoving the referee during their FA Cup loss to Manchester United last month. Serbian Mitrovic was sent off after confronting and pushing referee Chris Kavanagh with his shoulder.
“We claim the standard punishment which would otherwise apply to Aleksandar Mitrovic for the sending-off offence of violent conduct that he committed towards the match referee around the 72nd minute was insufficient. The forward separately admitted that his behaviour and language after being sent off was improper, abusive, insulting and threatening,” the FA’s independent Regulatory Commission said in a statement.

The FA confirmed their ruling regarding Mitrovic on Tuesday evening, with Cottagers manager Marco Silva also hit with a two-game touchline ban for his angry reaction to the incident. In addition, Silva was charged with misconduct for comments he made in a press conference following the FA Cup defeat. Silva apologised to Kavanagh and said he “regrets what happened” during the match on March 19 after being charged with abusive behaviour towards match officials.
