Experienced goalkeeper Debjit Majumder joins Chennaiyin FC

Chennaiyin FC announced on Wednesday that Debjit Majumder will join the two-time Indian Super League (ISL) title winner, Chennaiyin FC (CFC) ahead of the upcoming season. He is an experienced campaigner inked with a multi-year deal with the club. In the last edition of ISL, he represented SC East Bengal. The goalkeeper saved 50 goals in his 15 appearances.

He said in a press release, “I’m really excited to play for Chennaiyin FC and keen to perform and contribute to bringing its third title. Vishal (Kaith) is a good goalkeeper and he has been doing well for the last two seasons, so it will be healthy competition in the team.”

Debjit Majumder had spent his early years at Uttarpara Netaji Brigade before representing top Indian clubs, including East Bengal, Mohun Bagan, ATKMB (Athlético de Kolkata) and Mumbai City FC. He has played an important role in ATK’s title-winning campaign in 2016 and his journey of four seasons with Mohun Bagan also includes two I-League trophies in 2015 and 2020 as well as the Federation Cup in 2016.

In a press release, Chennaiyin co-owner Vita Dani stated, “We are happy to bring in Debajit to support Vishal between the sticks. He will also bring a wealth of knowledge and experience into the dressing room given his time at some top clubs in the country.”
