Everton supporter who threw plastic bottle at Aston Villa players avoids jail

A teenager has admitted to throwing a missile at Matty Cash and Lucas Digne during the fixture at Goodison Park.

An Everton supporter that threw a plastic bottle at Aston Villa players as they were celebrating a goal was given a suspended prison sentence.

On January 26, Roger Tweedle, 19, committed tossing a missile onto the playing field and assaulting Villa defender Matty Cash during a Premier League match at Goodison Park. When Villa struck and celebrated in front of home fans, the adolescent was arrested and interviewed, confessing he was “not thrilled” and that he “went along with the crowd. “Tweedle said he didn’t realise he had engaged in an offence when he was detained and was truly repentant for his actions, according to BBC. Cash was not wounded and did not require medical treatment.

Tweedle, of Cranehurst Road, Walton, was fined £200, plus £85 in costs and £128 to a victim of crime fund. In addition to a core mental health treatment requirement, he will be required to work while on probation.

The football banning order prohibits him from visiting regulated football matches, visiting towns or cities wherever Everton matches are held or travelling within a mile of Goodison Park four hours before or after a match.
