History of the Euro 2012 final repeats itself when Spain meet Italy in the first semi-final of Euro 2020.

Italy dominated Belgium without their key player Leonardo Spinazzola who was stretched off due to an injury. Nicolo Barella gave the lead to Italy at the 31st minute followed by Lorenzo Insigne’s stunning finish from the edge of the box at 44th minute. While they were 2-0 up, Belgium’s Romelu Lukaku netted a penalty kick and pulled one back for his side, just seconds before the halftime whistle but Roberto Martinez’s top-ranked side couldn’t equalise to face Luis Enrique’s Spain in the semis.

Kevin De Bruyne was injured at the start of the European championship following a facial blow suffered in the Champions League Final between Manchester City and Chelsea and couldn’t play the initial matches of the tournament.

The Red Devils also went through Eden Hazard’s injury who is not 100 per cent fit and has not performed enough at Real Madrid since he was signed.

“I think we tried everything to won the match. They scored a fantastic goal but the first one may have been a mistake on our part. Getting eliminated is always a disappointment,” said De Bruyne to UEFA.

Lorenzo Insigne was awarded as Star of the Match for his outstanding performance against Belgium.
