Enzo Fernandez has expressed his intention to represent Argentina in the upcoming Olympic Games, potentially missing Chelsea’s first pre-season under their new coach. The midfielder missed Chelsea’s last six games due to surgery for an ongoing injury.
Fernandez shared his struggles, saying, “I needed to get this surgery as I had been dealing with pain for about six months. I managed it with injections and medications, but the pain became more intense recently.”
Despite his injury, Fernandez was included in Lionel Scaloni’s Argentina squad for the Copa America this summer. Argentina will prepare in Miami and face Ecuador and Guatemala in friendlies before the tournament begins on June 20. The final, if Argentina reaches it, is on July 15, just ten days before the Olympics in Paris, running from July 26 to August 11.
This schedule means Fernandez would miss the start of Chelsea’s pre-season in the USA, depending on Argentina’s progress in the Olympic tournament.
