English Premier League: West Ham earn a point against Aston Villa to move out of the relegation zone

Pressure continues to mount on David Moyes this season.

In the Premier League on Sunday, West Ham United drew 1-1 with Aston Villa. Ollie Watkins continued his impressive form with a 17th-minute header in response to left-back Alex Moreno’s sublime cross for his sixth goal in seven games. Nine minutes later, Said Benrahma netted West Ham’s first goal from the penalty spot after Leon Bailey fouled Lucas Paqueta.

Trying to score a goal that would have given West Ham a third league victory in 2023, West Ham pumped plenty of long balls forward and crosses into the box after the break, but Villa defended well, and Martinez stood firm during the game.

After Everton’s and Bournemouth’s victories on Saturday, West Ham slipped into the bottom three after dominating the game but could not convert their opportunities. This result leaves them in 17th place with 24 points, while Villa remains in 11th place with 24 points.
