The 130th edition of the Durand Cup has begun on 5th September, Sunday. FC Goa was taking on the Indian Armed forces team named Army Green in the third matchday of the Cup. It was the first game for both teams. FC Goa emerged as a winner in this match after scoring two goals, one in each half to secure the 3 points.
Indian Super League team FC Goa is one of the five teams participating in this year’s Durand Cup. The game started and as expected the possession on the ball was with FC Goa. Goa kept creating chances at regular intervals and it was creating problems for the Army Green. In the 15th minute, a long ranger shot by Naveen Kumar hits the woodwork and the score was levelled at 0-0.
The Army Green were making chances but their midfielders couldn’t manage to pass the ball to the forwards as FC Goa was defending very well in this match. In the 35th minute, FC Goa leads by 1-0 as Chothe assists the ball to Noguera and he scored his first. Later in the second half, Romario gives a beautiful pass to Devendra before Devendra hits the ball into the net. FC Goa dominated the whole game even after leading Army Green by 2-0. Thus, after the final whistle, Army Green’s players had to leave the ground without any points as Goa beats them by 2 goals to nil.
