Defender Rahul Bheke officially joins Mumbai City FC for a two-year contract

The former Bengaluru FC defender has completed his signing to Mumbai City FC which will keep him until 2023.


The reigning defending Indian Super League (ISL) champions Mumbai City FC has officially signed Rahul Bheke from Bengaluru FC for a two-year contract which keeps him until the end of the 2022-2023 season.

The former defender has also been a part of other franchisee teams like Kerala Blasters, Pune City FC and now Bengaluru FC, having made 92 appearances in his last six seasons. Rahul Bheke also has scored five times in the ISL, including an extra-time winner in the final making Bengaluru FC win in the 2018-2019 season. He is currently with the Indian national team’s camp in Kolkata preparing ahead of the international friendlies which will be conducted later. Rahul Bheke has been capped 13 times since making his debut for India against Curaçao in June 2019 during the King’s Cup in Thailand.

Mumbai City FC has officially signed Rahul Bheke from Bengaluru FC, as they unveiled him on Twitter ” Welcome home”.

Rahul Bheke while completing his signing for Mumbai City FC said in a press conference “This is my hometown club and of course, the defending champions. The feeling of representing your city and your people is what makes this game more special for me, and I did not have to think twice when the opportunity to join Mumbai City came about,” as he showed his excitement in joining the defending champions of ISL.

Mumbai City FC head coach Sergio Lobera “hailed” Bheke as an experienced professional and said “He’s tremendously versatile in his abilities and he brings the traits of a leader, which is highly regarded in our club. Rahul knows what it takes to be a winner and he has the right mentality.” He also later showed his happiness and gratitude by saying “We are happy to have him here and I am confident that he can contribute positively at Mumbai City,”.

The 30-year old defender started his football career through the youth side of Mahindra United and went on to play for Air India, Mumbai Tigers and Mumbai FC before he headed towards East Bengal in 2015. He later Bengaluru FC by showing his excellent performance at the back-line and will now feature to play with reigning ISL champions Mumbai City FC for the next 2 years.
