David De Gea omitted from Spain’s World Cup provisional squad

David De Gea will not fly to Qatar as he is excluded from the “55-man” provisional squad which features five other goalkeepers.

Spain National Team manager Luis Enrique has submitted a 55-man provisional squad list from which his final 26-man team will be selected and Manchester United’s first choice goalkeeper David De Gea has been reportedly left off.

According to AS, Enrique has selected 5 different goalkeepers including three from the Premier League, however, De Gea is not one of them. David was very clinical to United’s victories last season and had dropped exceptional performances after a long run of poor form. It comes as a surprise to many, taking into account his long history of playing for the national team.

The three goalkeepers who are expected to travel with the first team are Athletic Bilbao’s Unai Simon, Brighton’s Robert Sanchez and Brentford’s David Raya. Kepa and David Soria have been selected as backups to the former goalkeepers.

United goalkeeper has featured in every game this season and has had more game time than some of the goalkeepers out there and edges over the others in the experience aspect too but it was shocking that five goalkeepers had a place in the provisionalsquad and DDG was not one of them.
