Chelsea faces a blow just before their game against Zenit in the Champions League on Wednesday night as their well-known midfielder Mateo Kovacic who has been struggling to play in the first team these days tested positive for COVID-19. On Tuesday, Chelsea FC’s manager Thomas Tuchel gave the team news in the press conference, that’s where he said that the Croatian professional football player will not be able to face some upcoming games as he has been tested positive for COVID-19.
Chelsea has recently lost to West Ham on Saturday’s opening Premier League game as Tuchel’s side was not so good against The Hammers. David Moyes’ side is been brilliant this season, not only in the Premier League but also in the UEFA Europa League. However, this may not be such a huge blow as Mateo Kovacic already wasn’t getting enough game time this season. But, no doubt, he is one of the important midfielders for the German professional manager’s team.
“We had some bad news with Kova, Mateo was in training yesterday with a big smile and it was a pure pleasure to have him back. Unfortunately, we have had a setback with him because he has tested positive today for Coronavirus and is now self-isolating.” Chelsea’s manager Thomas Tuchel said in the press conference as posted by the Chelsea FC’s official website.
It seemed that Tuchel was planning to start him in Chelsea’s next game (against Zenit) as the Premier League side has already qualified for the next round of Champions League. However, after this news, he can’t include him.
