Chelsea defender Marc Guehi signs for Crystal Palace

Marc Guehi, 21, was on loan at Swansea City last season.

Crystal Palace has agreed to sign Chelsea defender Marc Guehi. In the event Guehi’s deal is approved, he will join the club following the conclusion of their pre-season training camp which is being held at St George’s Park. Chelsea has the right to match any future offers for the player under the deal, including future sell-on incentives.

Last season, the 21-year old Guehi was on loan at Swansea City, where he made 40 appearances under Steve Cooper during the regular Championship season before losing to Brentford in the play-off final. Chelsea’s academy produced the England U21 international, who is under contract at the club until 2023, but he has just made two appearances for the first team.

Palace had been interested in Guehi for a long time, and their new manager Patrick Vieira gave the green light to complete the transfer. Additionally, Gary Cahill and Joel Ward have both been offered contract extensions by the Eagles, and Kristian Wilson has been appointed as Palace’s first-team coach.

In addition to Wayne Hennessey and Stephen Henderson leaving Selhurst Park, the futures of several other players are uncertain with their contracts having expired last month. In the meantime, Palace have brought in goalkeeper Remi Matthews, attacking midfielders Michael Olise (Reading) and Jacob Montes (New England Revolution) thus far during this transfer window.
