Champions League semifinals draw: Route to final, date, time

Real Madrid, Villareal, Liverpool and Manchester City have booked their spots in the penultimate round.

The second leg of the Champions League quarterfinals has concluded and the results are in. Real Madrid, Villarreal, Liverpool and Manchester City make it to the semifinals.

Despite winning 3-2 in the Bernabeu on Tuesday night, the reigning champions Chelsea’s title defence came to an end, as Karim Benzema scored an extra-time header to seal it for the Los Blancos. Real Madrid won 5-4 on aggregate. Meanwhile, Villarreal pulled off the biggest upset of the tournament thus far by knocking out Bayern Munich thanks to Samu Chukwueze’s 88th-minute goal, advancing 2-1 on aggregate. At the Anfield, Liverpool and Benfica played to a thrilling 3-3 draw which resulted in Liverpool qualifying for the semis 6-4 on aggregate. At the Wanda Metropolitano, Manchester City played in front of a raucous home crowd against Atletico Madrid. The match ended up being a 0-0 draw but was an entertaining one for sure. Manchester City qualified for the semis 1-0 on aggregate.

Jurgen Klopp and Liverpool have been aiming to go for the Quadruple – a feat no club has been able to achieve. In the semifinals, Liverpool faces Villarreal who comes into the semifinal as formidable underdogs looking to win the Champions League for the first time. The first leg of the semifinals is set to be played on 28th April – at 12:30 am IST followed by the return leg on 4 May at the same time.

Manchester City is trying to win the iconic trophy for the first time in the club’s history, as well as Pep Guardiola’s third as a manager. They face European giants Real Madrid who have already won the trophy 13 times and are looking to add to their tally. The first leg of the semifinals is set to be played on the  27th of April at 12:30 am IST followed by the second leg on 5 May at the same time.
