Real Madrid defeated Atlanta by 3-1 on Tuesday, 16th March and advanced to quarterfinals, after two consecutive eliminations, with Karim Benzema leading the way to victory.
Real Madrid took advantage of Atlanta’s costly goalkeeping change to make it back to the Champions League quarterfinals. Captain Sergio Ramos and Marco Asensio sealed Madrid’s victory by scoring a goal each in the second half. Atlanta’s one goal came from a free kick converted by Luis Muriel late in the game.

Ramos played just over an hour in his second appearance since recovering from a knee injury while Benzema’s goal was his eighth in as many games and 70th in the Champions League, making him only the fifth player to achieve this milestone. He signaled towards the bench that his work was done and he departed shortly after. Before that Benzema headed Lucas Vazquez’s cross at Marco Sportiello which got rebound against the post.
Atletico Madrid’s tie with Chelsea is a little closer match to look upon, though Olivier Giroud’s away goal in the first leg means the Londoners are the favorites to progress ahead.
The first legs of the quarter finals will be played on 6th and 7th April, while the second legs will take place a week later on 13th and 14th April respectively.
Only Manchester City and PSG have reached the last eight seasons. Bayern and Atletico too could join them.
