Bayern Munich has started its Bundesliga campaign after winning the trophy last year. Bayern Munich went to Borussia-Park (stadium in Borussia Monchengladbach) to play their first game of the Bundesliga season. But, their season didn’t start with the same spark as they had to settle for a draw. The final score was 1-1.
Borussia Monchengladbach was the team, who had the best chances to win the game. Bayern Munich was not playing the level they used to play. Their passing and attack were lacking. Also, their defence did not seem settled. Due to this, Borussia Monchengladbach scored the opening goal in the match and lead Bayern by 1-0 in the 10th minute. Alassane Plea of Borussia Monchengladbach gave the lead to his team with a superb finish beyond Germany’s No.1 goalkeeper Manuel Neuer.
The goal was a gift to Borussia Monchengladbach from Alphonso Davies, the Canadian left-back who gave away the ball to their opponents. Bayern never seemed to dominate in the game. However, their main striker Robert Lewandowski scored and equalized Bayern in the first half. The game was 1-1 before the players went back to the tunnel at the end of the first 45 minutes.
Borussia Monchengladbach had two best chances to score in the second half, but they didn’t manage to get the ball behind the net. Marcus Thuram, Monchengladbach forward missed the sitter in the 70th minute of the game, which would have easily made the score 2-1 for the home side. After the final whistle, it was all square and the game ended 1-1 which was a frustrating result for both teams.
