Brendan Rodgers’ Leicester City is out of the Europa League after losing 3-2 to Napoli

Italian side Napoli who is in great form this season defeated the English Premier League team Leicester City 3-2 to progress through to the next stages of the Europa League.

Another bad day at the office for Brendan Rodgers as his team Leicester City was defeated by an Italian side named Napoli. However, the scoreline of 3-2 doesn’t say the whole story. Leicester City couldn’t go through to the knockout stages in the Europa League 2021/22 season. Looking back at their trophies last season, the two that they won namely FA Cup and Community Shield, Leicester City was among the favorites to win this UEFA Europa League. But, unfortunately, they couldn’t even make it to the ‘Round of 32′ of the competition. Brendan Rodgers’ men were in the same competition last season. Even last year’s Europa was not good for Leicester as they were knocked out by Slavia Prague in the ‘Round of 32.’

Napoli, who is in great form this season in their Italian league Serie A, started the game on the front foot and they opened the scoring in just the 4th minute. After Leicester’s Tielemans gave the ball away to Petagna, he ran and switches the play to Napoli’s midfielder Adam Ounas who made no mistake and gave the lead to the host. They didn’t take much time for the second goal either, in the 24th minute the lead was extended to 2-0 after Elif Elmas finds an empty net. Despite conceding two early goals, Rodgers’ men weren’t going behind, they found their first goal when Jonny Evans strikes the ball hard after Maddison’s decent free-kick inside the box. Later in the 33rd minute, Leicester City’s midfielder Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall’s volley at the edge of the box was enough to beat the goalkeeper and equalize for the away side.

However, the last goal of the game was scored by Napoli’s midfielder Elif Elmas again, who made it 3-2 in the 53rd minute. Premier League side tried hard but couldn’t find an equalizer and it was all over for Leicester after the final whistle was blown by the referee. Leicester is now out of the Europa League and has been dropped into the UEFA Europa Conference League as their disappointing form continues this season.
