Barclays FA Women’s Super League announces 2021/22 fixtures with Chelsea to begin title defence against Arsenal

The first round of matches will take place from September 3-5, four weeks after the women’s football competition at the Tokyo Olympics.

Defending champions Chelsea take on London rivals Arsenal during the season opener of the 2021/22 Barclays FA Women’s Super League on September 3.

Emma Hayes side will begin their quest for a third straight WSL title in north London, where they play the Gunners. The Gunners finished nine points behind the Blues having to settle for the third position last season and have the chance to add momentum to their bid for a first title since 2019.


On the opening weekend of the WSL season, Manchester City travels to Everton, Manchester United host Reading, Aston Villa plays Leicester City, Brighton host West Ham and Birmingham encounter Tottenham.

WSL 2020/21 opening weekend fixtures – 3-5 September 2021:

  • Arsenal vs Chelsea
  • Aston Villa vs Leicester
  • Brighton vs West Ham
  • Everton vs Man City
  • Man Utd vs Reading
  • Tottenham vs Birmingham

The final day of the 2021/22 campaign includes Champions Chelsea hosting United, West Ham hosting Arsenal, and City facing Reading.

  • Brighton and Hove Albion Women vs Everton Women
  • Chelsea Women vs Manchester United Women

Following the easing of coronavirus restrictions, WSL fans are expected to return to the grounds.
